Measurement Uncertainty Course Announced

TUV Product Service are hosting a Measurement Uncertainty Course on Thursday 19th December at their laboratory in Fareham, Hampshire. Limited places are available so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Course Overview:
Starting with a basic discussion and overview on what is 'Measurement Uncertainty' with some interesting examples of its effect in everyday life, the course moves on to consider the measurement model, the contributions and their relationships, the methods of estimation and the summation of components.

Consideration will be given to the International requirements for the estimation of uncertainty, based on the 'GUM' and to the applicable standards relevant to the EMC world such as CISPR 16-4.

Building toward more complex models and examples the course will focus on EMC tests, supporting calibrations and finally a discussion on statements of compliance.

The course will be interactive with the student participating in actual worked examples and the use of spreadsheets. Discussion will take place on the methods of test used and how they are considered in the uncertainty analysis.

The students however are not expected to be mathematicians; the concepts will be explained in a way that will give confidence and enable the attendees to each work out their own measurement uncertainty budgets.

Other points that will be discussed on the course include, repeatability measurements, trend analysis, measurement checks, establishing in house limits for checks and consideration of when action should be taken.

Logistics:
The course will typically start at 09:00 for registration with the class starting at 09:15 with lunch at 12:15 and finish at 16:15 informal breaks will be taken approximately hourly for a few minutes for coffee and a leg stretch.
