BABT launches revised Safety Certification Scheme with free access to BABT Octagon Mark for existing certificate holdersFor many years BABT have successfully operated a safety Certification scheme leading to the BABT Tick Mark. This scheme enabled manufacturers of entire Telecoms or IT products, of Sub-assemblies; of Power supplies (both discrete and as sub-assemblies); and of barrier components, to hold certification from an accredited third party safety certifier. BABT have revised the scheme to enable manufacturers of entire Telecoms or IT products, and discrete Power supplies to make use of the BABT Octagon Mark as an alternative to the BABT Tick mark. Manufacturers of certified sub-assemblies and barrier components will continue to be able to apply the BABT tick mark. Certificate holders of the current 400 issued certificates may apply to use the BABT Octagon Mark where their products meet the same criteria as for new products. The transfer cost for existing BABT safety certificate holders who wish to use the BABT Octagon Mark will be free. Additionally in recognition of the global nature of BABT Certification the scheme has been extended to permit certification using recognised standards which are not published in the EU Official Journal for use with the LVD Since manufacture under a BABT PQC certificate is an essential requirement for safety certification, this provides confidence that all products have been subject to appropriate manufacturing and testing controls. BABT Safety Certificates are used to support supply of products to distributors, other manufacturers (e.g. sub-assemblies, and barrier components) and to discerning end users. |
