BABT extends certification services by becoming a Notified Body for the Marine Equipment Directive to provide an unrivalled UK service
BABT has been appointed as a Notified Body under the Marine Equipment Directive 96/98/EC (MED) by the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency. The appointment is effective from 15th April 2010.
The scope of the appointment covers categories A.1/4 (Navigation equipment) and A.1/5 (Radio-communication equipment). The directive covers equipment used on ships registered under the flags of the EU member states.
This important appointment complements the wide range of certification services currently offered by BABT and its parent company TÜV Product Service Ltd. By utilising the wide range of test services offered by TÜV Product Service Ltd at their Fareham, UK facility with the certification services offered by BABT, manufacturers now have an unrivalled service available to them in the UK.
