FCC (TCB)
Market: The United States of America
Products: Radio and telecommunications equipment
Manufacturers and suppliers of radio and telecommunications equipment wishing to place their products on the US market must obtain the necessary grant (approval) from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
As a Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB), appointed under the EU – USA Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA), BABT can issue FCC grants for the categories of equipment shown below, thereby avoiding the sometimes considerable delays that have occurred in the past for applications made directly to the FCC:
Unlicensed Radio Frequency Devices
These include:
- Low power transmitters operating on frequencies below 1 GHz (with the exception of spread spectrum devices), emergency alert systems, unintentional radiators (e.g., personal computers and associated peripherals and TV interface devices), and consumer ISM devices subject to certification (e.g., microwave ovens, RF lighting, and other consumer ISM devices).
- Low power transmitters operating on frequencies above 1 GHz, with the exception of spread spectrum devices.
- Certain unlicensed Personal Communication System (PCS) devices.
- Certain unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (UNII) devices and low power transmitters using spread spectrum techniques.
Licensed Radio Service Equipment
- Certain Personal Mobile Radio Services in CFR Parts 22 (cellular), 74, 90, 95 and 97.
- Certain General Mobile Radio Services in CFR Parts 22 (non-cellular), 74, 90, 95, and 97.
- Maritime and Aviation Radio Services in CFR Parts 80 and 87.
- Telephone Terminal Equipment in CFR Part 68.
To apply for an FCC grant using BABT as a TCB download the appropriate application form and explanatory guide from the tables shown below:
Radio Equipment (Intentional and Unintentional Radiators)
This scheme enables manufacturers of products which are intentional and unintentional radiators within the scope
of FCC 47 CFR to obtain an equipment authorisation through BABT as a Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB) /
Conformity Assessment Body (CAB), and where appropriate filing with the FCC, to enable the supply of products in the
USA.
