RTTE / R&TTE EC Directive 1999/5/EC CE MarkingBABT RTTE / R&TTE EC Directive Compliance Services RTTE / R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC is the European regulation applicable to radio and telecommunications terminal equipment. Manufacturers, suppliers and importers of such equipment must apply one of the conformity assessment procedures of the Directive before CE marking the equipment and placing it on the market of the European Economic Area* EEA). CE Marking Under the RTTE / R&TTE Directive, CE marking is mandatory and must be affixed before any product subject to it is placed on the market. Where products are subject to several directives, which all provide for the affixing of the CE marking, the marking indicates that the products are presumed to conform to the provisions of all these directives. The responsibility to affix these markings is with the manufacturer. It is illegal to apply the CE marking if conformity with the requirements has not been established or to use other markings which may be confused with the CE marking. In cases where a Notified Body has involvement in the conformity assessment process, the identification number of the Notified Body must be affixed to the product alongside the CE marking. An example of the CE mark where there has been BABT Notified Body involvement is:

Where an equipment class identifier has been assigned for radio equipment, this identifier must also be an integral part of the marking.
